Leah is a senior dietetics major from Southern Illinois.

Why did you choose to study Dietetics?

From a young age, fitness has been a passion of mine. I have grown up playing various sports, but the closest to my heart was swimming. I loved being able to push my body to new limits and accomplish goals in the pool.

In high school, I realized the importance of diet as it related to my performance. I loved learning what foods gave my body energy and what foods made me feel sluggish. I realized that I wanted to spend my future educating on proper nutrition and helping find a life of wellness.

What is your favorite part of studying Dietetics at UK?

There are so many different things I love about studying dietetics!

I would have to say my favorite part has been learning how nutrition plays a major role in health diseases and disorders.

I also really love my classes, which has reaffirmed that being a Registered Dietitian is what I want to do in my future.

What are your plans after graduation? Professional goals?

After graduation, I plan to participate in the University of Kentucky's DHN Dietetics Internship program. Once I have completed that, I plan on sitting for my RD exam and passing!

My short term goal is to gain clinical experience as an inpatient dietitian. My long-term goal is to work as a private practice dietitian to improve nutrition and lifestyle behaviors.
