Meet one of our dietetics students, Samantha Mellert, who is learning from UK Athletics Dietitian, Monica Fowler, MS, RD. Samantha is working with the UK football team and learning about Monica's responsibilities.

"Growing up as an athlete, I’ve always felt connected to the sports community and want that connection to continue into my adult life. Through volunteering at Nutter, I have gained first-hand knowledge of the struggles and rewards of being a sports dietitian. This experience has helped me to apply what I learn in the classroom to the situations I encounter with the football team." said Samantha.

Christa Childers is a senior majoring in Dietetics. She is from Lexington, Kentucky. She has been involved in the Student Dietetic and Nutrition Association, serving as Hunger Chair and currently serving as President. As an undergraduate student, Christa has attended two Universities Fighting World Hunger Summits, studied abroad in Ghana, West Africa, volunteered with the University of Kentucky football team dietitian, and is involved with DanceBlue as a member of the Family Relations Committee.

Congratulations Siddhi Shroff, a Master's candidate in the Department of Dietetics & Human Nutrition, for receiving the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Student Stipend Award to attend this year’s Food and Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE)! She attended educational sessions focused on the RD exam and her future service to the field of dietetics. Siddhi learned about workplace wellness and the influence of the dietitian in an evolving health care system.

Siddhi shared, “It was a wonderful experience that provided a lot of networking and professional development opportunities and, most of all, it was fun! Attending FNCE set a foundation for my future as a dietetics professional. I cannot wait until I become a Registered Dietitian!”
