Requirements

  • Completed Didactic Program in Dietetics that meets the Current Standards of Education for Dietetics education. A verification signed by the Program Director is required.
  • Complied with the application and screen procedures for the DI through the DICAS system. (UK only participates in the Spring Match of DICAS and does not participate in the Fall Match of DICAS). The DI does not participate in the second round DICAS matching process. 

1. Complete the DICAS Dietetic Internship Application On-line

  • Participate in the on-line Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System (DICAS). 
  • Deadline: February 15
  • Write and include a personal statement by expressing the following:
    • Expectations of the dietetic internship
    • Identifying reasons for choosing a broad general program in relation to your professional goals
    • Short-term and long-term goals
  • Three letters of reference. References should be from professionals that are qualified to comment on your academic and/or work ability, potential, personality and character. Two references should be from faculty members and one from an employer. 
  • DPD Verification Statement (or intent to complete) by faculty advisor for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Didactic Programs in Dietetics (DPD). Applicants can request Declaration of Intent or Verification Statement forms through DICAS to the DPD Director and electronically sign them.
  • Register online for computer matching from D&D Digital. There is a $50 computer matching fee. 
  • Submit a nonrefundable $50 application fee (payable to: University of Kentucky) postmarked by February 15 to:

2. Admittance to the UK Graduate School is a requirement to complete the dietetic internship.  If you are accepted and matched to the dietetic internship program, you will then be required to apply to the graduate school.  The GRE is a requirement to apply to the UK Graduate School along with a $65 (domestic students) or $75 (international students) nonrefundable application fee.  Please follow these directions when applying to the Graduate School: Application Instructions

Selection Criteria 

The selection committee is composed of the Program Director, appointed DHN and affiliated faculty who will rate the application materials based on the following criteria:

  • Academic ability – DPD Professional GPA and DPD Science GPA. > 3.0 Overall GPA preferred but not required. 
  • Work and volunteer experience. 
  • Personal attributes--as evaluated by letters of recommendation and personal statement.
  • Student involvement with the profession.
  • The DI selection committee will then prepare a ranked list of the applicants to be submitted.
  • A maximum of eight (8) candidates will be matched for acceptance into the DI program. All applicants will be notified of Computer Matching results by late April.

Applicants must e-mail the Dietetic Internship Program Director to confirm acceptance or rejection of a computer match within two days of receiving the appointment.
